Dr. Jarra Hicks

Jarra is one of the founding Directors of Community Power Agency, who lives and works on Biripi County, in regional NSW. Her work bridges community, corporate, NGO, academic and government stakeholders to increase the positive social engagement in the shift to renewable energy.

With 15 years experience in community energy in both Australia and overseas, Jarra’s expertise spans community engagement, business model design, facilitation, policy development and partnership building. She has worked as a project manager on the ground, as well as with governments, peak bodies, NGOs and the corporate sector.

Jarra holds a doctorate in social enterprise, which has helped her to centre social justice and social value in the energy transition through her work on innovative projects, programs and policies. Her research, publications, guides, policy and training programs serve as industry benchmarks and have influenced improvement in industry practices of community engagement and benefit sharing.

Jarra has a PhD in Law and Built Environment from the University of NSW, and a Bachelor of Development Studies (with First Class Honors) from the University of Newcastle.
